Reciprocal Privileges

Dear Member,

I hope you’re able to take advantage of San Diego’s beautiful bay, anchorages, and scenery by getting out on the water. As a city, we’re truly one of the best in the world for boaters!

This information is provided to all new members in their welcome packet, and it serves as a helpful reminder for everyone. Please keep the following in mind when visiting other yacht clubs:

  1. Call ahead to ensure the club you plan on visiting has a reciprocal arrangement with PLYC. If you find yourself frequently visiting a particular club, consider joining, but we also hope you’ll remain a member at PLYC.
  2. Always sign in. There should be a sign-in book near the front desk. If you can’t find it, ask for assistance. This is how each club tracks usage and other information. For example, one time a club up north contacted me because a PLYC member left something behind in their galley. I was able to find the member and return the item.
  3. Treat your visit as if you are a guest in someone’s home. Without asking, you wouldn’t typically adjust the lights, air conditioning, heat, fireplace, or take a shower.
  4. If asked to comply with a reasonable request, please do so. This includes vacating the property or not using a particular area of the club. If you were a guest in someone’s home and they asked you to leave, you would do so.
  5. If you have any issues with members, club officials, or personnel, please obey their request and contact the current Commodore of PLYC. We will work with the club to ensure everyone understands our arrangements. We may not be able to do so “on the spot,” but we will work to mend things at our earliest convenience.
  6. Remember that the privilege of visiting another club is just that, a privilege. We don’t have “reciprocal rights” or “reciprocal membership.” This small distinction in verbiage and mindset is important.

If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact PLYC at info@pointlomayachtclub.org

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
