Gary Peterson

Port Captain
Gary Peterson

About the same time that Gary learned to ride a bike, he started sailing. Since then he’s been on the water in some form for all his life.  He served in the Navy during Viet Nam and continued to hone his sailing skills throughout the coastal waters of Southern California and in the Caribbean.

Whenever he isn’t on the water, he’s giving back to the boating community through teaching boating safety courses as a Division Vice Commander in the Coast Guard Auxiliary during 2020 and as staff of U.S. Sailing Safety At Sea seminars.  Gary is a licensed USCG Captain and recently he’s started competing in various offshore yacht races having now completed 2 Transpac, 2 SC300, Islands, and the 2018 San Diego – Puerto Vallarta race.

Gary Peterson has recently been elected to the position of Division Commander,  Coast Guard Auxiliary for 2021
